Roots Jam and Poetry Slam

We were also thrilled to host our first official “Poetry Slam” the night before the Roots Jam session, a new branch of our community listening initiative. Because we’ve recognized from the beginning that citizens must play a central role in our campaign, we’ve been going around the country, with the help of our terrific coalition partners, to hear what opportunity and the American Dream means to everyday people – whether they are young or old, from a large city, small town or the suburbs. We’ve heard powerful stories about solutions and barriers to opportunity, and we are making sure that their voices and ideas shape OpportunityNation's agenda. And realizing that thoughts and feelings around these issues can go beyond a general discussion and be expressed through the arts, including music and poetry, we will begin to host Poetry Slams around the country.
